Court / Appeal results in reduced sentence for downloading indecent images
A LERWICK man who was jailed for downloading more than 21,000 indecent photos and videos of children has had his jail sentence halved at an appeal hearing in Edinburgh.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank had sentenced Ross Robert Morrison, of Burgh Road, to 20 months behind bars at Lerwick Sheriff Court on 5 December last year after the 46 year old had pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court in Lerwick heard that the majority of the images and video found on Morrison’s laptop computer were classified as the lower category C.
Last week Morrison was successful in appealing against the sentence. On 19 February the High Court in Edinburgh reduced the jail term to ten months.
