News / Islanders urged to take part in consultation on 4G ‘notspots’
SHETLAND MSP Tavish Scott is urging anyone concerned about poor mobile coverage to get involved in a Scottish Government consultation on 4G “notspots”.
The government has identified 100 potential sites to be included in a programme to deploy 4G mobile internet to areas without any network coverage.
There are two potential sites identified in Shetland: one in Foula and one in the Westside, and members of the public are invited to provide evidence of other notspots for consideration.
Scott said: “We all know how inconsistent mobile signal in Shetland is, but many mobile phone companies see no business case for providing coverage in the isles so it is vital that Shetland sites be included for consideration in this rollout.
“4G is not only increasingly necessary for keeping in touch and accessing services but could also allow some in more rural areas to access high speed internet.
“I encourage everyone struggling to get the network coverage they need to tell the Government exactly where the problem spots are.”
The consultation is open now and runs until 8 October.
Anyone who wants to become involved can access the consultation at:
