News / Scalloway Hotel adds to collection of awards
THE HIGHLY-rated Scalloway Hotel picked up another three accolades at the latest regional Scottish Hotel Awards in Inverness on Wednesday.
The waterfront village hotel, widely regarded as one of the isles’ leading eateries and hotels, has been recognised in the breakfast, informal dining and front of house categories.
Duty manager of the hotel Jonny Sandison was in Inverness to receive the trio of awards for the Highlands, Islands and North East region of Scotland.
Joint owner Caroline McKenzie said: “We are delighted to win these awards, which recognise the efforts of our small team, who work incredibly hard to maintain a high standard of both food and service at the Scalloway Hotel.”
The hotel has previously won prizes for its food and hospitality, and was named best independent hotel in Scotland last year.
It has also been praised for becoming the first hotel in the country to pay its staff the living wage in a sector notorious for low pay, while McKenzie won plaudits for standing up to the “shameful” and “xenophobic” rhetoric of UK home secretary Amber Rudd on behalf of her non-British staff members.
