News / Funds raised for Clan
A WOMAN who tackled 70 challenges to coincide with her 70th birthday last year raised more than £10,500 for Clan Haven, the charity-run facility used by many Shetlanders who travel to Aberdeen for cancer treatment.
Seven of the challenges that Jan Livingstone, who this week resigned from her role as a housekeeper at Clan Haven, tackled took place in Shetland. They included an evening at Lerwick Boating Club and a trip on the Aith lifeboat.
She decided to include a Shetland leg of the fundraising challenge having become well acquainted with many islanders who stayed in the Clan accommodation. Patients – along with their family and friends – are eligible to use the facility while receiving radiotherapy and other cancer-related treatment.
Last May she was joined by her friend Maggie Stannard to do the various challenges, and this week she revealed that some £10,542.36 had been raised.
“This is a fantastic amount raised and has been donated to Clan Haven,” she said. “I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone in Shetland who supported us when we were there doing some of my challenges.
“I have wonderful memories of my very first time there and the friendships made. Thank you all for your generosity in helping me to raise this fantastic amount for Clan.”
She added: “I will be back later this year to see more lovely Shetland landscapes that we couldn’t fit in.”
