News / ‘7in7 for James’ raises £32k
A SHETLANDER who scaled Ben Nevis seven times in a week has managed to raise £32,000 for the Anthony Nolan charity.
Craig Smaaskjaer completed the “long, hard slog” as part of a campaign to help find a bone marrow donor to help his six year old nephew James Hawick, who has a rare blood disorder called aplastic anaemia, and others with similar conditions.
The publicity generated by Smaaskjaer’s ‘7in7 for James’ efforts, and other awareness-raising events in September, resulted in 366 folk registering online to become donors – which he said was “vital to the success of it all”.
“We are immensely humbled and grateful to everyone,” Smaaskjaer said, offering sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped with the fundraising efforts this autumn.
Smaaskjaer plans to hand over the money to Anthony Nolan in the next few days, but in the meantime you can still donate online at: https://www.justgiving.com/craig-smaaskjaer/
