News / Residents delighted with mystery bench
The RESIDENTS of a sheltered housing scheme in Sandwick are over the moon after a bench to enhance their community space appeared out of the blue.
Resident Anne McMillan said the eleven people living in Park Wynd were all extremely grateful for the gift, but puzzled as to who the anonymous donor was.
The wooden bench was secretly left next to the community’s existing bench overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
It has two labels attached, which further add to the mystery.
They read: “From East India Company Singapore 1814 A Gift to All” and “To The Good People From Hudson Bay Company Canada 1822 Enjoy”.
MacMillan said: “It’s lovely, it’s super, because it means there is now space for more of us to sit down.”
She said the sheltered housing scheme was a close knit community: “If you see someone sitting on the bench then you go out and have a chat with them.
“The bench really is a meeting place, it is a very friendly little square here, we all kind of gel together, so it is absolutely super to have two benches now.”
However, they would love to say thank you to their mystery donor and ask him or her to get in touch either via Shetland News at news@shetnews.co.uk or directly with Karen Angus at karen.angus@btinternet.com
