News / Broken bottle

AN APPRENTICE mechanic who was found guilty of wielding a broken bottle at two bouncers when he encountered them in a Lerwick lane last May was fined £700 at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Jonathan Sinclair, aged 18, of Dungaven, Houster, Tingwall, was found guilty last November of assaulting two nightclub bouncers in Trance Closs with the broken whisky bottle.

On Thursday he also admitted slapping a third bouncer outside Posers on 4 April last year after he was refused entry to the nightclub.

Sheriff Philip Mann told Sinclair that a broken bottle could be just as lethal as a knife, especially when it was involved in a struggle and he could have been sent to prison.

However Mann was prepared to accept that there had been an element of provocation involved.

Four Posers bouncers currently face trial for allegedly assaulting Sinclair down one of the Lerwick lanes after the April “slapping” incident.
