THE OIL terminal at Sullom Voe, in Shetland, is being closed to tanker traffic for up to a week to carry out essential repairs to the crude oil loading lines.
The BP-operated terminal closed its three loading jetties on Tuesday afternoon following the departure of the Greek-registered tanker Aegean Power bound for Rotterdam.
BP hope to complete the work installing a new section of pipe with a new drain valve on the lines that carry crude oil to the tankers within five to seven days, a spokeswoman said.
The repairs were identified some time ago, but it has taken until this week to find a window during which they can be carried out.
The port at Sullom Voe has had a quiet year with the Schiehallion oil field west of Shetland being out of action for five months until the beginning of November.
The port should start to become more active once the jetties are open again for the busier winter season.
