SCT meeting

SHETLAND Charitable Trust has convened another meeting for Wednesday in a bid to make a decision on releasing an additional £420,000 for the controversial Viking Energy wind farm, in which the trust is a major shareholder.

Two weeks ago, a majority of trustees either declared an interest or were not present leaving the trust unable to vote on the matter.

Shetland Charitable Trust needs 12 of its 23 trustees willing to vote to be able to make a decision.

Orcas

MANY ISLANDERS and visitors had the chance to encounter a wildlife spectacle at the south end of Shetland on Saturday when a pod of killer whales cruised the coastline between Levenwick and Sumburgh Head.

It has emerged that the group of five orcas had previously been identified by scientist Dr Andy Foote, of Aberdeen University who is studying the various killer whale families in the waters of the northeast Atlantic.

Photos of the whales can be seen at: www.facebook.com/shetlandwildlife
