News / Maddrim’s Masks for London film festival
A SHORT film by Shetland’s young film makers Maddrim will feature at the Rob Knox Film Festival, in London, later this spring.
The group’s harrowing film ‘Masks’, examining the destruction of identity that can result from drug abuse, has been selected from over 200 applicants.
It will be screened at the Erith Rowing Club, in the London borough of Bexley, on Sunday 5 June.
Originally produced for the local film festival ScreenPlay, in 2008, ‘Masks’ enjoyed wide coverage for a while when tens of thousands of viewers watched it on YouTube.
The Rob Knox Film Festival was established as a tribute to the late actor Rob Knox who played Marcus Belby in ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’. It aims to support the education of young people in school in the area of citizenship, respect and street violence awareness.
Maddrim member Roseanne Watt said: “It is very exciting to have Maddrim’s work showcased in a festival outwith of Shetland. We’re all very proud of ‘Masks’, so it’ll be fascinating to see how the audience in Bexley respond to our film.
“It’ll also be great seeing the work of other young filmmakers and interacting with them. It’s such a great opportunity and we are very thankful that the Rob Knox Film Festival chose to screen ‘Masks’.”
