News / Two men admit drink driving
TWO MEN spent Easter in the cells at Lerwick police station after being arrested for drink driving in Shetland at the weekend.
William MacLean, of 24 Pinewood Court, Milton of Leys, Inverness, had to wait until Tuesday morning before he appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court where he pled guilty to dangerous driving and being more than twice the limit for alcohol.
The 25 year old truck driver was stopped in his car on Sunday after he was seen driving at “grossly excessive speeds” over a five mile distance between Lerwick and Scalloway on Sunday.
Honorary sheriff Eric Peterson fined MacLean a total of £1,233 and disqualified him for 18 months, ordering him to resit the extended test before getting back behind the wheel of a car.
Also arrested on Sunday was 37 year old Scott McCulloch, of 2 Mill Lane, Lerwick. On Tuesday he admitted driving while three and a half times the legal limit on Holmsgarth Road, North Road and Gremista industrial estate in the town.
Sentence was deferred until 4 May to investigate who owns the car McCulloch was driving after procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie moved for it to be forfeited. Meanwhile the vehicle remains in the custody of the police.
