News / Swimming: Double silver
SHETLAND swimmer Andrea Strachan has become the first local athlete to achieve a qualifying time for the British Swimming Championships, which be held in Manchester on the 5 and 12 March.
Andrea, representing Edinburgh University, took the silver medal at the British University Championships in Sheffield at the weekend with a time of 33.36 seconds for the 50 metre breaststroke.
During this event Andrea also qualified for the finals of the 100 metre breaststroke finishing in 5th place and the 50 metre freestyle where she finished in 9th place.
Meanwhile Lerwick swimmer Amy Harper took the silver medal in the final of the 100 metre freestyle at the Edinburgh International competition, which was held in Glasgow.
Amy was beaten by Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmer Hannah Miley, but finished ahead of Corry Scott from East Kilbride who was also a member of the Scottish Commonwealth Games team.
