Letters / Who will pay our pension?
Brian Nugent should read, understand and keep up to date himself with the letter he is commenting on (Keep up to date; SN, 18/06/14).
The triumvirate’s letter stated: “Basic questions such as who would pay state pensions have not been answered”.
An extremely valid question! WHO will pay our state pension?
In his statement DWP Minister Steve Webb told a government committee those who had “accumulated rights” would be entitled to the money. However, he said there were still questions over which government would pay the money.
What the three are asking is this: Do we vote No and receive our pensions worry and stress free as we always have, or do we vote Yes and wait and get stressed out while waiting to see how the negotiations go to see who will pay us and in which currency?
Then we would have to worry about how much extra tax we would pay when Salmond introduces his local income tax as well as rises in council tax and VAT etc.
The UK Government quite rightly ruled out pre-negotiation of issues like pensions prior to the referendum vote, because after a No vote there would have been no need for them.
Spending and wasting money on pre-negotiations would ensure British pensioners stay the fourth poorest in the EU.

Brae.
