CUNNINGSBURGH lass Maggie Adamson has won the prestigious Glenfiddich Fiddle Champion 2011 beating stiff competition from six other highly talented young musicians.
The 19 year old said she was “thrilled” to have won the title after coming second last year.
“It’s so great to have finally gained the title. It’s brilliant to be invited along to the competition, something I really aim for, and I’ve loved playing with all the other competitors, who are fantastic,” she said on Sunday.
Taking place annually at Blair Castle in Perthshire, the awards – already in their 22nd year – are celebrating the very best fiddlers from across the UK.
The winner of this competition is often referred to as the ‘Champion of Champions’, since those who compete do so by invitation only following earlier competitive successes in the year.
Peter Gordon, Chairman of sponsors William Grant and Sons added: “As ever we have been hugely enthused by the wonderful fiddle finalists, who offer a day of exceptional music.
“We would like to congratulate Maggie who impressed the judges with her flair and passion to take the title of Glenfiddich Fiddle Champion 2011.”
Second was Graham Mackenzie, from Inverness, followed in third place by Barbara Anderson, from Huntly.
