News / Busy weekend for local police
POLICE in Shetland have had yet another busy weekend with assaults, breaches of the peace, theft, vandalism, underage drinking and loud parties all featuring in Monday morning’s long list of incidents.
Officers are making enquiries after a man was assaulted outside Poser’s nightclub, in Lerwick, in the early hours of Saturday. Police gave no information about any injuries sustained but asks anybody with information to get in touch with the police station in the town.
In a separate incident, a 17 year old youth was arrested late on Friday evening for police assault. He will be reported to the Children’s Reporter.
Also on Friday, a 28 year old man was arrested for vandalism and a breach of the peace within a hair salon in Lerwick; and a 59 year old man was arrested in Burra on Sunday evening following a breach of the peace within a house on the island.
Police also arrested a 16 year old boy after a bicycle was stolen from a garage on Lerwick between Thursday and Saturday, and are making enquiries after a fish tank was removed from a garden in Scalloway, at some time between Friday and Sunday.
Acting police sergeant Gordon Anderson added that over the course of the weekend officers seized alcohol from underage youths in Lerwick on four occasions.
They also arrested a 16 year old girl in Lerwick on Saturday evening for being drunk incapable.
Sergeant Anderson said: “Police would like to remind people of the dangers of underage drinking and to report any such concerns to police.
“Over the weekend Lerwick police have again been called to a number of noise complaints, which have caused upset to nearby residents.
“Members of the public are again asked to be mindful of causing upset to their neighbours with excessive noise levels.”
