Two people in hospital after ‘serious’ two vehicle crash in Voe
The council says the road between Voe and Brae is now likely to remain closed overnight
TWO PEOPLE have been taken to hospital in Lerwick after a “serious” two vehicle crash in Voe this morning (Friday).
An ambulance and two fire appliances attended the scene, which is on the A970 main road near the Mulla junction.
The road between Brae and Voe is currently closed to all through traffic, Shetland Islands Council has said.
The council later said that the road is now likely to remain closed overnight.
Police Scotland said that the crash was “serious” and asked people to avoid the area.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to attend by the Scottish Ambulance Service just before 8am.
For drivers, diversion signs are in place at the Brae Co-op and Tagon Stores in Voe, directing traffic instead through the Dales Lees and Scatsta.
Bus company R Robertson and Son said that the weight restriction on the Dales Lees road, which was put in place recently for cable installation work, has been temporarily lifted.
“A bus is on its way to Toft from Sella Ness to run the 9.05am 23 [bus service],” it said.
“When it gets to Brae Hall it will turn around and operate via Dales Lee. This will cause a delay of 20-30 minutes for stops from Brae onwards.
“The 9am 21 will depart Lerwick at 9.45am, running via Dales Lee. The 10.15am from Hillswick will be significantly delayed as a result.
“Sparl, Wethersta, Foulawick and Mulla stops will not be served until further notice.”
The company apologised for any inconvenience.
