Traffic cone on statues trend reaches Lerwick
A TRAFFIC cone on top of the Duke of Wellington statue in Glasgow has been an iconic hallmark of the city for decades.
And when the Tartan Army went to Boston for the World Cup last month, that spirit was taken stateside as football fans began donning statues there with cones too – attracting interest in national media on both sides of the Atlantic.
The World Cup high jinks also prompted cones popping up on statues and monuments elsewhere in Scotland, including Edinburgh, Dumfries and Inverness.
The City of Edinburgh Council however has been removing cones, with concerns over safety if they were unsecured and fell from height.
But as the above screenshot from Shetland Webcams shows, Lerwick is now in on the action after a traffic cone was placed on top of the lamppost at the Market Cross.
Perhaps slightly less daring was a traffic cone spotted yesterday in Scalloway on top of the bus shelter at the bottom of Berry Road.
