Scalloway Boating Club next to secure extended licensing hours for World Cup matches

SCALLOWAY Boating Club has become the latest venue to secure extended licensing hours to show Scotland’s World Cup group matches.

The venue had three occasional licence applications approved at a brief meeting of Shetland’s licensing board at Lerwick Town Hall on Monday morning.

The boating club applied to extend its on sale hours through 4am on Sunday 14 June, with Scotland playing their first World Cup match at 2am UK time against Haiti in Boston.

It also had applications granted for extending hours through to 2am on 20 and 25 June.

A number of other premises have received extensions to their licensing hours in recent months, including in Lerwick and Sandwick.

Highlighting the similarity to previous applications, Shetland South councillor Bryan Peterson moved that the requests from the boating club be granted.

Shetland West member Liz Peterson seconded her colleague, before the full-time whistle was sounded on a meeting which lasted just three minutes.

Some Shetlanders are set to make their way to America this week to cheer on Scotland at their first World Cup since 1998.

A number of the fans had their photo taken together in Lerwick at the weekend.

Scotland will face Haiti in their opening group match before taking on Morocco and Brazil.
