Warning about oil spill along Dales Lees road
DRIVERS are being asked to drive with care this morning after an oil spill on the A968 between Toft and Voe, better known as the ‘Dales Lees’ road.
Shetland Islands Council said the spill appears to have affected the road on a section of road up to eight miles long.
“The origin of the oil spill is unknown but the road surface is slippery and hazardous in many places,” the council said.
“Council staff have placed warning signs at various points along the road and deposited sand across the road surface at bends and at junctions.”
The council also asked road users to make sure they used dipped main beam headlights and rear fog lights where necessary due to the low cloud and reduced visibility across many parts of Shetland today (Thursday).
