Housing / Plans submitted for housing on former hotel site
PLANNING permission is now being sought for a housing development on the site of the former Moorfield Hotel in Brae.
It would feature 12 semi-detached social housing units and three private homes.
The cleared site has been vacant since the Moorfield Hotel burned down in 2020 shortly before it was due to close. The land was then bought by building firm E&H.
Shetland Islands Council’s strategic housing investment plan for the next five years lists the proposal as a Hjaltland Housing Association project.
E&H said in a planning statement that the development “aims to address the pressing need for modern, sustainable, and energy efficient housing while respecting the local landscape and community identity”.
The company said the houses would be made from timber.
The social housing would comprise of six two-bedroom units and six one-bedroom homes.
