Community / Vaila goes under offer

THE ISLAND of Vaila, which went up for sale earlier this year with an asking price of at least £1.75 million, is now under offer.

With the Westside island featuring the eye-catching B-listed Vaila Hall, a watch tower and other buildings, news of the sale attracted big interest online.

The island went on the market in the summer as couple Richard Rowland and Dorota Rychlik prepared for a new chapter in their life.

They have owned Vaila – which lies off the west mainland of Shetland and is accessed by boat – for around 30 years and have lovingly restoring the main residence, which features a baronial hall and stained glass windows.

Luke French of estate agent Savills previously told Shetland News that the listing quickly became the most viewed residential property on its UK website.

He added that around 80 per cent of all in-person viewings were coming from overseas buyers.

‘It’s been a fantastic 30 years’- owners of Vaila put island up for sale
