A BURST hydraulic pipe means the Whalsay ferry Hendra will miss a couple of runs this afternoon (Friday).
The problem will affect the 2pm sailing from Symbister to Laxo, and the return trip at 2.45pm.
The hope was for the Hendra to be back running at 3.30pm, but normal service is now expected to resume from 5pm.
During the disruption the Linga will continue to operate her normal timetabled sailings. Shetland Islands Council said it apologises for any inconvenience caused.
THE DEVELOPER of the Viking Energy wind farm has launched a new educational resource for children aged three to eight at nursery and primary schools across Shetland.
Created in conjunction with educational experts We Are Futures, Vaila’s Windy Day follows the adventures of Vaila, a seven-year-old girl from Shetland as she learns about electricity and wind power.
SSE Renewables’ community engagement manager for Viking Energy Wind Farm Julie Graham said: “We are committed to being a good and worthwhile member of the Shetland community and that is why we have worked with teachers in Shetland to develop this engaging and fun educational resource.
“The transition to renewable energy sources including wind power is one we are all embarking on – it is likely that many of these children will have a role in this industry when they grow-up.”

THE OWNER of long-established Lerwick shop Home Furnishing is gauging interest in a possible sale due to declining health.
Ghufar Razaq said he is preferably looking to rent the building but sell the business goodwill, stocks, fixtures and fittings.
“However we would be also open to discussing the possible purchase of the property too,” he said on social media.
The shop has operated in its current form since 2004.
NORTHLINK is continuing its sponsorship of Shetland’s women’s and junior football associations.
As part of the deal the ferry operator has provided teams with new kits.
The strips were made in partnership with local sports shop, Intersport, and created by Shetland-born designer, Helen Laurenson.
Serco NorthLink Ferries’ managing director Stuart Garrett said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership, and it was great to work with Shetland business, Intersport to design the strips.”
THE COUNCIL says it is confident there is no faecal contamination in the Clickimin Loch in Lerwick after a video was posted on social media with speculation that raw sewage had entered the water.
Environmental Health staff went down to the loch on Wednesday to investigate.
Last week the loch was found to have blue-green algae, and this has combined with distributed water flow after recent rainfall, the council said.
A spokesperson said organic material floating near the edge of the loch is likely to be natural fungal growth from nearby drainage which has been dislodged by surface water flows, rather than human faeces.
“No other material or items normally associated with faulty sewage systems were noted in the water,” they added.
“Anderson High School maintenance staff have also confirmed that their systems are operating as normal.”
