Police / Body found in Lerwick

POLICE say the body of a woman was found at an area of shoreline in Lerwick this afternoon (Tuesday).

Although formal identification is to take place, the next of kin and family of missing woman Sharon O’Neill have been informed.

There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.

Police said they were called at around 1.50pm.

The coastguard said its rescue officers located the body in the water, and with the assistance of the Lerwick Lifeboat recovered it to shore.
