Court / High court trial date set after pleas of not guilty to heroin supply charge

TWO LOCAL men are to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow next year accused of being involved in supplying heroin at their homes in Lerwick.

Nigel Scott, 47, and Matthew Smith, 48, are both accused of supplying the Class A drug between 24 November 2020 and 24 May 2021.

Smith alone faces the same charge in relation to cannabis.

Scott is also accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice amid claims he ran away from a detective and threw away a bag containing heroin.

This was said to be in a bid to “avoid detection, arrest and prosecution”.

The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday, where lawyers pleaded not guilty on their behalf.

A trial was set for 18 September 2023. The pair, both still of Lerwick, remain on bail in the meantime.
