Election / Council formally declares uncontested wards
SHETLAND Islands Council has now formally declared the two wards which were uncontested in the local government elections.
Independent members Duncan Anderson and Ryan Thomson have been formally returned to the council chamber for the North Isles.
In Shetland North Scottish Labour’s Tom Morton has been elected, alongside the returning independent councillors Emma Macdonald and Andrea Manson.
It means an early win for Scottish Labour in its national local government campaign.
A by-election is due to be held in the North Isles ward as only two candidates came forward for its three seats.
Polls opened this morning for the council elections, and the results of the five contested wards will be declared tomorrow morning.
