Shetland’s first living well hub opens in Brae
A NEW drop-in service offering help to anyone needing to find out more about what health and social care services are available to them locally has opened its doors in Brae.
The Living Well Hub, located at the Brae Youth Centre, is open to the public twice a week on Mondays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm.
The hub is part of Scotland-wide roll-out of the community led support (CLS) programme which aims to link communities with health and social care services.
Staff will be available in the hub to speak to anyone who may feel they need help in their lives, but who may be unable to contact services themselves.
Options include linking individuals with local community organisations or voluntary groups, as well as referral to other support services including Shetland Islands Council and NHS Shetland.
Adult social work manager Ruth MacMillan said further living well hubs could be opened in other locations such as the North Isles and Westside in the future, depending on the feedback the initiative receives.
She added that Brae had been chosen as a pilot because of the large north mainland catchment area and the distance to Lerwick for some of the remoter communities.
“We hope that this informal setting will be something that people find easier to access, and staff will be able to suggest support options and signpost anyone to other groups and services where necessary,” she added.
