Police / Police send out clear message on racist abuse

ANY FORM of racist abuse is completely unacceptable and Shetland police is ready act if offences are reported to them.

Chief inspector Paul Daley.

That is the message from the newly appointed area commander for the islands, chief inspector Paul Daley.

He said that people are now prepared to call out racist abuse, and that is exactly what led to the arrest of a young man in Lerwick two weeks ago in connection with reports of an offensive and racist remark being made towards another person.

The chief inspector said: “People are now clear that this sort of thing is unacceptable, people will call it out now and that is thankfully what happened in the most recent case.

“It is unacceptable and police will take any case absolutely seriously from the minute it is reported, and we will do our best to bring the offender to justice.

“If you are aware of, you hear of or are subject of any kind of abuse, racial or otherwise, let us know and be assured that we will follow that up.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on telephone 101.
