Emergency services / Grass fire causes island-wide power cut
ALMOST 5,000 households across Shetland were without power for up to two hours this afternoon (Monday) after a grass fire above the Gremista Industrial Estate in Lerwick knocked out supplies.
Appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called out at around 12.45pm.
A spokesperson for SSE said engineers had been working with the fire service to get the situation under control.
As of 4pm two customers remained without power; all other customers had been restored gradually through from around 2.30pm.
A spokesperson said: “4,865 customers across Shetland from Gremista into the surrounding areas were affected by the fire.”
Local firefighters, meanwhile, attended another grass fire in Yell on the same day.
