News / More on food festival menu
A NEW headline chef has been announced for this year’s Taste of Shetland food festival.
Chef, TV presenter and author Manju Malhi will host a curry masterclass on Thursday 4 October.
Malhi, who was born in England to Indian parents, has appeared on the likes of This Morning, Saturday Kitchen and Sky One.
“I cannot wait to come to Shetland,” she said.
“I like to keep things simple and straightforward and love to be known as a crossover cook. So I’m really looking forward to combining Shetland’s wonderful produce with my own cooking inspiration.”
It has also been revealed that previously confirmed visiting chef Gary Maclean will host a Ready, Shetland? Cook! event on Friday 5 October.
Shetland Food and Drink manager Jill Franklin said: “Gary will challenge two of Shetland’s best cooks to create fast, tasty dishes using local Shetland produce.
“Two lucky audience members will be picked at random to assist on stage in our Ready Steady Cook-style competition, with everyone in the audience voting for the winner.”
This year’s Taste of Shetland Food Festival will take place between 5-7 October at the Clickimin in Lerwick.
The deadline for the festival’s children’s cooking competition Peerie Bites, meanwhile, has been lengthened.
People now have until midnight 12 September to enter.
