News / Refugee solidarity fundraiser
THE SHETLAND Solidarity With Refugees group, which has just dispatched another 11 pallets of donations bound for the continent, is staging a fundraiser in Scalloway Hall this weekend.
Soup, tea, coffee and homebakes will be served along with a sale featuring clothes, books, ornaments, toys, bric-a-brac, face painting, and a silent auction featuring vintage Fair Isle garments and other items.
Last Saturday saw the latest load of aid from Shetland Solidarity With Refugees being shipped to Aberdeen.
Scottish charity Re-Act will deliver the donations to Calais, Dunkirk and Samos in Greece.
The group’s tireless volunteer Rita Smith said they wanted to thank Star Cars for the use of a van and “all the wonderful people who give so generously and help out regularly”.
She urged people to come along to Sunday’s fundraiser, which takes place between 12 noon and 4pm: “It will be a grand day out and you’ll still have time to get to your local bonfire night afterwards!”
