THE JARLSHOF settlement has enjoyed its busiest ever summer season, with over 16,000 people flocking to the historic Sumburgh site.
The number of visitors between April and September exceeded the total number for the last financial year.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) said 16,442 people visited the prehistoric and Norse settlement this summer, which was a four per cent increase on the same period last year.
Across HES’ 70 sites this summer there has been a total of 3.8 million visitors, up one fifth from 2016.
