News / Police seize cannabis
A TWENTY five year old man is in custody after he was found to be in possession of £2,500 worth of cannabis when searched by police officers after disembarking the NorthLink ferry at Lerwick’s Holmsgarth terminal on Tuesday morning.
Chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch said: “This is the fifth person in recent weeks to be arrested for attempting to carry drugs to Shetland which has resulted in the seizure of cannabis, heroin and cocaine to the value of over £16,000.
“We will continue to arrest people caught carrying drugs to Shetland and put them before the court, but we also need to inform and provide awareness to people of the dangers and damage caused by using controlled drugs.
“Recovery services are available on Shetland and I would urge anyone using and addicted to drugs to contact their doctor and seek assistance through the substance misuse recovery service.”
