News / Reuse and recycle
SHETLAND Home Company, formerly known as the Scrapstore, is encouraging locals to donate any unwanted possessions as part of a nationwide week designed to promote the reuse and recycling of items and goods.
Pass It On Week, devised by Zero Waste Scotland, runs from 11-19 March and it encourages people to use items for longer or pass them onto someone else.
COPE Ltd’s Shetland Home Co. is taking part in the week and it is asking locals to hand in items from furniture, white goods and computers to books, mirrors and collectables.
The social enterprise, which can carry out small repairs on some goods, offers a free home pick-up service for larger items.
It is also extending its opening hours on Thursday 16 March to 9am to 7pm and on Sunday 19 March to midday to 4pm.
Team leader Karen Erasmuson commented: “This is the perfect time of year for a good clear out at home, and we would be very grateful of any donations from the public. We are really excited to be part of Pass It On Week, it is a great initiative.
“At Shetland Home Co. we have a diverse range of stock which is constantly changing. We have a wide range of household items for first-time buyers in their new home; games and DVDs to entertain the family; extensive vinyl collection for vinyl fans; and furniture ready for your next Annie Sloan project.”
