News / Parliament reaches out
THE UK Parliament is holding an “outreach” workshop with voluntary and community groups in Shetland to give people a better idea of the way Westminster works.
The parliament’s “senior community outreach and engagement officer” Gary Hart will cover how the House of Commons and House of Lords works, what MPs and members of the Lords do, and how you and ensure that they listen to your voice.
The workshop takes place on Tuesday 1 November between 6-8pm at Market House in Lerwick, and you can book a free place by contacting Ayesha Huda on training.vas@shetland.org or by calling (01595) 743995.
Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael said: “This is a really great opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning more about the work of MPs and members of the House of Lords.
“Gary has held sessions like these before and they always promise to be interesting and engaging, and I hope many people will go along to make this a success.”
