News / Shannon’s latest Mareel show
RENOWNED Irish button box player Sharon Shannon is coming back to Mareel for a third time next month.
Shannon, who has recorded and toured with a who’s who of the Irish folk and global music industry including Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Steve Earle, Bono and many more, will play the North Ness venue on Tuesday 6 September.
She is working on a new album for release in 2017 and while in Shetland will work with local fiddlers on a track that will be included on the new LP. The track will be performed, recorded and filmed as part of the show with a group of fiddlers being brought together by Maurice Henderson of Fiddlers’ Bid and Haltadans.
Shannon is known for combining traditional Irish tunes with many other styles including reggae, country and bluegrass. No stranger to the isles as a solo artist, her latest visit will feature a four-piece line-up completed by esteemed traditional Irish musicians Jim Murray (guitar), John Reagan (fiddle) and Alan Connor (piano).
- An evening of high-energy traditional tunes can be expected. Tickets are available now through Shetland Box Office.
