A SPORT Relief challenge at the Baltasound School in Unst at the weekend has raised more than £1,800 for local and national charities.

More than 210 people took part in Saturday’s fancy dress charity run, with participants either running or walking on a one, three or six mile route.

Baltasound PE teacher Caroline Hunter said it had been a huge success with the biggest turnout seen in the four years the event has been taking place.

The funds raised will go to both the national Sport Relief charity and towards a defibrillator and some life-saving training in Unst.

Caroline said: “There is still money coming in, but the totals so far show that both Sport Relief and the community defibrillator funds will be receiving over £900 each, which is a fantastic effort and shows what an outstanding community spirit we have here in Unst.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this event in any way – participants, marshals, games organisers and helpers, Unst SWI, raffle providers, food providers and anyone else that I have forgotten!”
