News / Ferry delayed after anchoring off Kirkwall
SERCO NorthLink’s passenger ferry MV Hjaltland’s arrival in Lerwick has been delayed by several hours as she spent much of Sunday morning anchored just off Kirkwall.
Weather and tidal conditions prevented the ship from berthing in Kirkwall, though it is hoped the Hjaltland will berth at around 2pm before heading on to Lerwick.
She is now not expected to arrive in Shetland until the early evening. As a result, Sunday night’s scheduled 7pm sailing to Aberdeen will be delayed. Serco NorthLink said it would provide further updates on check-in times as soon as possible.
The MV Hrossey arrived in Aberdeen at 4.30am. She will leave Aberdeen on schedule at 5pm, but once more a scheduled stop off in Kirkwall has been cancelled.
Further updates will be issued here.
Meanwhile, Shetland Islands Council suspended its ferry service on Yell Sound on Sunday lunchtime.
