News / Yacht towed to Lerwick
A DANISH yacht with two people on board had to be towed from Grutness to Lerwick in the early hours of Monday after its engine failed.
The yacht, Getaway, was lying in Grutness Bay dragging her anchor and began drifting towards rocks on the shore.
At around 3.30am the yacht put out an emergency mayday call and Shetland Coastguard responded by calling out the local lifeboat and a nearby fishing vessel, which was able to tow the yacht away from the shore.
The RNLI lifeboat then took over the tow and escorted Getaway into Lerwick Harbour. It arrived safely in the port at around 7.30am.
