Letters / Sanctimonious arrogance
It’s strange that the reaction to having a raw nerve tweaked is a dose of what can only be described as sanctimonious arrogance (‘Not worth responding’, SN 6/3/15).
There are no inaccuracies in the Facebook posts where Douglas Young reacted in a bullish manner to a worried commentator, while asserting independence was paramount to all other issues, as this was copied and pasted word for word.
There are no inaccuracies in my statement that Douglas is an office bearer in the Shetland branch of the SNP. This is verified by a Shetland Times article where his appointment to “branch press and publicity officer” was announced.
This makes Douglas Young’s assurance that he is not an office bearer somewhat disingenuous, unless of course he has resigned or been sacked from this position and has omitted to include this in his public denial.
Mr Young’s avoidance of answering my/our letters smacks of double standards and is reminiscent of a certain Prime Minister who is too chicken to take part in pre-election debates.
This is magnified by the fact that Douglas seems to think that the Secretary of State for Scotland should take time out from his busy schedule to answer Douglas’s trivial requests via emails.
Maybe Mr Carmichael thinks emails from Douglas are not worth answering which in turn prompts negative, personalised vitriol which Douglas gives but hates to receive; like I said, double standards.
Gordon Harmer,
Brae
