News / Police identify Skerries woman as crash victim

THE POLICE have named the woman who died after her car crashed on Saturday as 47 year old Brenda Hay from Skerries.

The victim was driving her Mitsubishi Lancer when she came off the main A970 at the Sandwater junction at around 11.30am.

Her passenger suffered minor injuries which were treated at Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, where she was taken by ambulance.

The road was closed to traffic for the rest of Saturday and overnight while specialist traffic police carried out an investigation, but was reopened on Sunday morning.

Anyone who witnessed the accident has been asked to contact the police on 101.
