LIAM Evans became the latest addition to the Up Helly Aa committee at this year’s mass meeting last night (Tuesday).

He said on social media prior to the meeting that Up Helly Aa has been a “huge” part of his life from the age of six, when his dad took him to the galley shed for the first time.

Over the last 20 years he has been a member of squad four and a torch boy, while he has marshalled for the junior and senior processions.

Evans has also been in two jarl squads, and he has taken on the job of making the jarl’s breastplate and the feathers for the jarl’s helmet each year.

Evans stands to be guizer jarl in 2042, following in the footsteps of his dad Mark who led the festivities in 2016.
