News / Man in Black tribute
ONE OF the country’s most popular tributes to the legendary Johnny Cash have returned north to play two shows in Shetland this weekend.
CASH played at the Symbister Hall in Whalsay on Friday, followed by a show at Mareel in Lerwick tonight.
The acclaimed five-piece who “pay respect to the man in black” last played in the isles in 2012 for a sellout show in front of 1,200 people at Clickimin, as well as wowing country fans at a warm-up show in Cullivoe, Yell during the same visit.
CASH are fronted by singer and guitarist Ben Welburn, who bears a striking resemblance to a young Johnny Cash – while also replicating the late country singer’s deep bass baritone vocal.
The band play a full 90 minute set including tracks from throughout Cash’s career including ‘I Walk The Line’, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, ‘Ring of Fire’ and ‘Jackson’, which includes vocals from CASH’s tribute to Johnny Cash’s late wife June Carter Cash.
Local folksters Scaldin Bragg opened for CASH in Whalsay while legendary Yell rockers, No Sweat, will provide support for tonight’s Mareel gig. Tickets for the latter are available from Shetland Box Office.
