News / Return of The Chair
MUCH-LOVED Orcadian folkies The Chair, a regular fixture at Shetland Folk Festival, will be back in the islands in late November for a weekend of gigs.
The eight piece will play the Sandwick Social Club with support from VAIR on Friday 28 followed by two shows at the Gulberwick Hall on Saturday 29 – a family concert at 2pm followed by an over-18s evening gig, supported by Rack n Ruin, at 9pm.
Gulberwick Hall committee member Liam Mullay, who is helping to organise the visit, said the weekend promised to be a riot of accordions, fiddles, banjos and drums.
“As anyone who has seen them before will agree, The Chair onstage is an experience that will have even the most reserved audience beating a path to the dance floor!” he said.
The shows are being co-sponsored by JW Gray’s and Coors Brewers. Iain Johnston of JW Gray’s said the company was “delighted” to support the two country halls.
“Local halls and clubs are going through a particularly challenging time at the moment,” he said, “therefore it is very important for local suppliers to help them in any way they can to ensure their survival.
“On this occasion we tapped into a support fund from a major mainland supplier [which] was more than willing to assist both the Gulberwick Hall and Sandwick Social Club with their concerts.”
Johnston added: “Both local bands are well known in Shetland and the added bonus of having a great visiting act will make for a fantastic weekend of live music.”
- Tickets to all three of The Chair’s November concerts areavailable now from High Level Music. The two evening shows are priced £15, while tickets to the family concert are £5 for over 14s and £3 for under 13s.
