News / Cannabis grower
A LERWICK man who admitted growing cannabis at his home for more than a year had sentence deferred when he appeared before the town’s sheriff court on Thursday.
Dell Smith, of 22 Burnside, also pled guilty to stealing electricity worth £3,635 over a five and a half year period from 9 June 2008 until 9 January 2014.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that 558 grams of the Class B was seized when police raided Smith’s home earlier this year.
Police also found equipment associated with cannabis growing such as fans and heaters.
The fiscal said that “quite a lot of effort had gone into” the operation.
Sheriff Philip Mann asked for criminal justice reports to be prepared and told Smith that he wanted to “look carefully at all the options” in this “relatively serious matter”.
The sheriff ordered the forfeiture of all the equipment seized and ordered the 38 year old to return to court for sentencing on 26 June.
