News / New sheriffs in town
TWO former senior figures at Shetland Islands Council have accepted an invitation to serve as honorary sheriffs at Lerwick Sheriff Court.
Former SIC convener Sandy Cluness and former assistant chief executive Willie Shannon were installed at the court during a private ceremony last week.
Both men are qualified lawyers and served as children’s reporters. Cluness was also Shetland’s first full time procurator fiscal.
The pair join current SIC convener Malcolm Bell, former police chief Arnold Duncan and local solicitor Eric Peterson as Shetland’s honorary sheriffs.
The men sit on the bench at Lerwick Sheriff Court to see people who appear from custody when Sheriff Philip Mann is away.
