THE ORGANISERS of Britain’s most northerly classic motor show have said that this year’s event will be bigger and better than previous shows.

Over 300 cars and motorcycles of all types spanning over 100 years of motoring history will be on show at Lerwick Clickimin Leisure Centre during the weekend of 7 and 8 June.

The show promises an “interesting and exotic” range of vehicles, with preparations in hand to build on the success of previous years and gather “a fascinating range of exhibits and features to whet the appetite of anyone interested in classic motors and machinery”.

Motor clubs now feature the Shetland Classic Motor Show in their programmes, while the show is attracting an increasing number of impressive local vehicles.

In addition to cars and motorcycles, there will be a range of commercial vehicles, bicycles, tractors and stationary engines. Scale model and archive photography displays, which always prove popular, will be extended for this year’s event.

A range of guided local tours for the classic vehicles have been arranged before and after the show to allow visitors to soak up the islands’ spectacular scenery and natural history.

One of the organisers, Maurice Mullay, said: “A hugely impressive collection of all types of vehicle will be travelling from all over the UK for our increasingly popular Shetland Classic Motor Show and tours.

“The diversity and outstanding quality of vehicles is quite amazing. This is a must-see event; add it to your diary now.”

It is the 16th time the biennial show has been staged. Visitor numbers from Shetland and beyond have grown substantially over the years, with the number of vehicles now stretching the capacity of Clickimin.

With hotel and B&B accommodation at a premium finding accommodation for visitors presents an “ongoing challenge” and Mullay is asking anyone with spare rooms to get in touch on (01595) 695540.

Anyone who has yet to receive an invitation who would like to exhibit at the show should contact Graham Johnston on 07876 164777.
