News / Long jail terms for Bradford robbery
A SHETLAND couple have expressed their relief after two of the three men who robbed them of £5,000 were jailed for more than 13 years.
Michael Irvine and Louise Cogle, from Bixter, had travelled to Bradford in August last year to buy a new car.
But instead of viewing a white Audi A4 Quattro they were robbed at gunpoint, an experience that has had a profound impact on their lives.
At Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday Sajid Hussain, 26, of Cunliffe Villas, Manningham, Bradford, was jailed for seven years after a jury trial had found him guilty of his involvement in the robbery.
Hussain was sentenced to a further three years in jail for drug offences.
His co-accused Shahid Sadik, 24, of Toller Lane, Bradford, was sentenced to six years and three months in jail after admitting the robbery and gun charges prior to Hussain’s trial.
Irvine and Cogle said they were happy that justice had been done.
After the case, detective inspector Neil Benstead, of Bradford CID, said: “Hussain and Sadik lured their victims to an agreed meeting point before threatening them at gunpoint to hand over a large amount of cash.
“This must have been a terrifying experience for them and we hope that the sentences passed down today will help to give them some closure.”
