News / Helicopter emergency
A BRISTOW helicopter is back in the air after sparking a full emergency at Sumburgh airport on Friday morning when a warning light illuminated in the cockpit of the Sikorsky S-92 during a routine offshore flight.
The chopper was heading out to an offshore installation with 18 passengers and two crew when the emergency was called. It landed safely at around 10.30am.
Fire, police and ambulance crews were mobilised as were coastguard teams from Sumburgh, Lerwick and Noness when the emergency was called off.
A spokesman for Bristow said the aircraft was back in service before 4pm after being inspected by engineers.
“Safety is Bristow’s number one priority,” the company said.
