News / Continued problems due to snow
FLIGHTS in and out of Shetland faced more disruption amid continued snowfall on Saturday.
Although some early flights into Sumburgh Airport landed close to their schedule arrival time, outgoing planes were snowbound with some facing a delay of several hours. One incoming flight from Aberdeen in the afternoon was cancelled.
Yesterday’s cancelled flights meant musicians Bryan Gear and Violet Tulloch, who had been due to perform at the Scots Trad Music Awards in Aberdeen Music Hall tonight, couldn’t get away.
Youngsters hoping to fly away to see pop group JLS were also left disappointed.
Meanwhile power networks in Unst, Yell and two parts of the mainland, including Vidlin, were still facing disruption on Saturday morning. An SSE spokesman said engineers were “working on those faults now and hoping to restore all supplies today”.
The wintry showers are expected to come to a halt with temperatures due to rise and snowfall expected to turn to rain by Saturday evening.
Night sailings of Serco NorthLink ferries the Hjaltand and Hrossey are due to depart on schedule from Lerwick and Aberdeen respectively.
