Super Puma scare
A SUPER Puma helicopter was stuck on an oil rig 150 miles north east of Shetland on Thursday night after an indicator light came on as it was about to fly 15 oil workers ashore.
The EC225 model was only brought back into service recently after two ditching in the North Sea last year, in which no one was injured.
CHC Helicopters, who operate flights to and from the North Alwyn field, said there was no emergency as the warning light did not flash.
They kept the chopper on the platform overnight before flying an engineer out on Friday.
A CHC spokesman said: “It appears to have been a temperature indicator which was lit, but the exact reason will remain unknown until the engineer makes a report – anything else at this stage is speculative.”
Unease remains in the North Sea about flying on Super Pumas following last month’s fatal accident off Shetland.
A preliminary air accident report said the Shetland crash was not caused by mechanical failure.
